Nagpur: A “clever” businessman’s tactics to cash in on headlines-grabbing nomenclature NaMo, a popular sobriquet for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seems to have boomeranged as it did not go well with a horde of BJP leaders and other organizations. In this respect, the BJP MLA from Hingna constituency Sameer Meghe on Monday vociferously demanded closure of Namobar (beer bar and restaurant) and courted arrest. He was arrested along with large number of party activists. The NaMo Beer Bar has been target of umpteen organizations with demands to shut it down. The name of the bar was cleverly thought as a marketing strategy but it is now drawing more and more protests than the customers as the State is ruled by BJP.
The MLA Sameer Meghe’s court arrest was preceded by a strong protest a few days ago from Godhni locals. The locals had staged a protest against the beer bar named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popular social media abbreviation name, NaMo in Nagpur district. The opening of the beer bar created a lot of chaos in Nagpur as locals, Gram Sabha and members of Gram Panchayat also opposed the government’s approval to the liquor shop in the neighbourhood. A group of women from the Godhni village here also staged a dharna raising the demand to bring down the beer bar.
Interestingly, Narendra Modi had ruled Gujarat, a dry state, as Chief Minister for three times before being elected as the PM of the country.
