Amit Ambade, who was slapped with MCOCA and accused of sensational Bharat Khatwani murder case, has been granted bail by MCOCA Court.

It may be mentioned that Bharat Khatwani was attacked by two masked men who stabbed him repeatedly with sharp weapons when he was sitting in his Hello World Mobile Shoppy in Telipura area of Sitabuldi. The gruesome murder, caught on CCTV camera, occurred around 4 pm on March 7. The profusely bleeding Khatwani was taken to Suretech Hospital where he succumbed to stab injuries on March 10 while undergoing treatment. The barbaric murder had sent shockwaves across the city in general and traders in particular.

The attack was the outcome of enmity between goons over ‘hafta’ collection in the area. Ironically, Khatwani was attacked two years ago for the same reason. Khatwani was dead against giving ‘hafta’ to any goon and had ensured that no ‘hafta’ is given by any trader. Due to this, Khatwani was in the bad book of those collecting ‘hafta’ and was ultimately made the target.
Sheikh Sharif, Amit Ambade, Shiekh Shakil, Sheikh Ashfaque,  Akash Saroj, Prakash Sugandhpatre, Sumit Yadav, Jeetesh Jadhav, Shubham Ramteke,  Sourav Ambatkar were arrested in connection with murder . It is alleged that, Sheikh Sharif had given ‘supari’ or contract killing to Jeetesh Jadhav, Shubham Ramteke,  Sourav Ambatkar for killing Bharat Khatwani.
City police top brass had shifted the Bharat Khatwani murder investigation to the crime branch . This followed complaints by the victim’s family. The probe was being handled by Sitabuldi police station after it registered the murder case.
The then city police chief K K Pathak, Joint CP Anup Kumar Singh and deputy commissioner of police Nirmala Devi S visited Sitabuldi police station occasionally  to review progress in the investigation of Bharat Khatwani murder case.
Khatwani, who owned around four shops at Electronic market, had purchased the place where he was murdered from one Abhishek Khandele for Rs 20 lakh in 2010.
After arrests, crime syndicate run by Sheikh Sharif was slapped with MCOCA when it came to fore that he was operating a gang engaged in collecting hafta and other illegal business including selling of ganja.
