“Anticoagulation Forum” a scientific discussion on Anticoagulation was held by radiological Society of India (Vidarbha Chapter) and Cardio-Thoracic Society (CTS) jointly in collaboration with Abbot Medical on Sunday 30th of April, 2017 at Hotel Centre Point, Ramdaspeth, and Nagpur. On this platform, Neurologist, Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons and Physicians coming together and interactively discussed different perspective of Oral anti-coagulation therapy for the management of thromboembolic disorders. A of Cardio Thoracic the outset Dr. P.K. Deshpande, President, Cardio Thoracic Society and Dr. Kashif Syed made introductory welcome speech and presented overview of Anticoagulation Forum respectively. Indians Vary in Dietary habits compared to western countries counter parts.

Inconsistency in consumption of foods rich in Vit. K, such as green leafy vegetables, cabbage, and cauliflower can lead to INR fluctuation. Over the counter medications/ herbal medications are common in India; these can accentuate the anticoagulation effects. The use of concomitant ant tubercular treatment can change INR (The international normalised ratio (INR) is a laboratory measurement of how long it takes blood to form a clot. It is used to determine the effects of oral anticoagulants on the clotting system.)

First speaker Dr. Pramod Mundra, Interventional Cardiologist, Platina Heart Hospital, presented Cardiologist’s perspectives and advice on “Managing atrial fibrillation in patients with oral anticoagulation therapy & Challenges and Dilemmas”.

Dr. Swap nil Deshpande, CVTS Surgeon presented “Challenges and Dilemmas in managing Valvular Heart Disease” Cardio Thoracic Surgeons perspective.

Dr. Ankur Jain, Neurologist, Wockhardt Hospital presented Dilemmas and Challenges in Managing Stroke patients who are on oral anticoagulation care” and presented Neurologists perspective.

Dr. Prabhakar Deshpande, Physician, Dr. K.G. Deshpande Memorial Centre, Gokulpeth, presented Physician’s perspectives in “Challenges and Dilemmas in managing Deep Vein Thrombosis and Venous thromboembolism in patients who are on oral anticoagulation care” Dr. Avinash Pophali contributed his expert comments time to time with latest guidelines on anticoagulation therapy in various clinical scenario and situation.

Dr. Ram Ghodeswar, President CSI, Vidarbha Chapter, summed up the discussion. Dr. Pankaj Harkut proposed the vote of thanks. The CME was largely attended by Neurologist, Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons and Physicians of the city.
