An alkaline diet to help your Healing process

The two phases of the disease cycle (discussed in previous article, http://nagpurtoday.in/have-you-ever-wondered-how-a-disease-starts/) have an intense effect on our bodies and an understanding of how diets can help our system, will help assist in healing our body. Our bodies and muscles need instant energy in the first phase and hence we crave carbohydrates, sugars, dairy proteins and other foods. Our bodies in the second phase need food that heals and builds the cells so that they can regenerate effectively.

Your body is in stress during the first phase and, as the cells are working they produce acidic waste, so your body is in acidic state. Your body is regenerating in the second phase and as the cells are repairing they are in alkaline state, so your body is in alkaline state. Now to check acidic and alkaline state, the pH scale (the balance between acid and alkaline state) goes from 0-14 with 7 being NEUTRAL, below 7 is ACIDIC and above 7 is ALKALINE with the optimal blood level being 7.365. The body includes a number of organ systems that are adept at neutralizing and eliminating excess acid, but there is a limit to how much acid even a healthy body can cope with effectively.  The pH level of our internal fluids affects every cell in our bodies and ultimately our state of health. The levels of sugar, oxygen, and carbon dioxide within the blood must all be stable, and the pH of the bodily fluids, including the blood, should be slightly alkaline.

All of our metabolic processes depend on an alkaline environment to function optimally. The body is capable of maintaining an acid-alkaline balance provided that the organs are functioning properly and a well-balanced alkaline diet is being consumed. If the food you eat and the drinks you drink are too acidic, the body will neutralize them with powerful buffering compounds present in your blood. Any further excessive acid will be excreted via the urine and if there is an overload of acid, it will accumulate in the tissues and cells thus putting the disease process on hold. We get acidic because of Stress, Toxins, Parasites and the food that we eat and consume. Any acid-producing factor has to be avoided based on the understanding of which phase you are in, the first phase which is the Stress or the second phase which is the Rest.

An alkaline diet emphasizes alkaline foods. Alkaline food raises the amount of oxygen that your blood takes in. The essentials of the diet are to keep the pH balance of food intake at 80% alkaline with 20% acidity. Vegetables and fruits are the easiest ways to get more alkaline into your diet.

Vegetables that are alkalizing are: Beetroots, Broccoli, Green Cabbage, Red Cabbage, Carrot, Cauliflower, Cucumber, Garlic, Green beans, Green peas, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard greens, Onions, Peppers, Pumpkin, Radish, Spinach, Sprouts, Sweet potatoes, Tomatoes, and Wheat grass.

Fruits that have an alkalizing effect are: Apples, Apricots, Avocados, Bananas, Cherry, Coconut, Dates, Figs, Grapes, Grapefruit, Lemons, Limes, Muskmelons, Oranges, Peaches, Pears, Pineapple, Raisins, Strawberries, Tangerines, Tomatoes, and Watermelon.

Now food becomes boring without Spices, so alkalizing condiments are Cinnamon, Curry, Ginger, Mustard, Chili pepper, Sea salt, and all herbs. Minerals are also essential for optimum health; minerals which have an alkalizing effect that adds to the proper balance of your blood pH are Cesium, Potassium, Sodium, Calcium, and Magnesium. Foods that are high in protein including milk, meat, and whole grains are acid-forming. Most of the fruits are alkaline-forming but some like prunes, plums, and cranberries are acid-forming because our bodies can’t break down the types of acids they contain.

It does not stop here, there are also therapies that assist the body to become alkaline and they are Massages, Meditation, Energy Healing Techniques, Yoga, Emotional Clearing Techniques, Salt Bathing, etc. It will not be surprising to tell you that highly refined foods, such as oils, sugars and soft drinks are acid forming. So you see we consume a very imbalanced diet high in acid-forming foods. This imbalanced diet pushes us towards an acidic state thus obstructing the healing phase.  The term ‘alkaline diet’ has also been used by alternative medicine practitioners, with the proposal that such diets treat or prevent cancer, heart disease, low energy levels as well as other illnesses.
