Akshay, Jayashri, Yash, Mrudul, Ansari to be honoured

sjanNagpur: Vidarbha spinner Akshay Wakhre, talented volleyball player Jayashri Thakre, promising basketball player Yash Gainkar, chess prodigy Mrudul Dehankar and noted sports organiser Sattar Ansari have been selected for the annual sports awards instituted by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN).

Besides individual sportspersons, Saraswati Vidyalaya and Nabira Mahavidyalaya, Katol will be awarded for their contributions to the field of sports.

The awards ceremony will be held on August 27 at Scientific Hall , Laxmi Nagar at 10.00 am. Former Indian pace bowler Javagal Srinath will be the chief guest of the function.

Director of Raisoni Group V Gopalkrishnan, Inderjeet Singh Randhawa and SJAN officials were present at the press conference.

Akshay Wakhre: Talented off spinner so far has played 28 first class matches and claimed 94 wickets including eight five wicket haul.

In the last Ranji season, even after playing just three matches he claimed total 21 wickets. He will receive GH Raisoni trophy for best senior sportsman.

Jayashri Thakre : Belong to small place like Dhapewada, this talented volleyball player was the member of Indian team that emerged champion inSouth Asian Volleyball Championship held at Nepal. So far she has represented Maharashtra in nine nationals. She wiil receive GH Raisoni Trophy for best senior sportswoman.

Yash Gainkar: Yash Gainkar became city’s first hoopster to be selected in the probable list of Indian U-18 team for Asian School Basketball Championship. Yash, however, missed the India berth by a whisker but has made his presence felt in the U-19 national championship, dominated the age category state championships and is a handy point guard at the local level. He will be honoured with GH Raisoni Trophy for Best Junior Sportsperson.

Mrudul Dehankar: The budding chess player recently clinched bronze medal in under-12 age group in Blitz from of the chess in Asian Youth Chess Championship recently held at Suwon, South Korea. Prior to that in Commonwealth Chess Championship at New Delhi, Mrudul remained unbeaten in her group to win the gold medal. She will receive Baidyanath Trophy for best junior female player.
Sattar Ansari: Through Rabbani Club, this veteran sports organiser has produced several international or national football players. He will be honoured with Meeradevi Dasture Trophy.

Saraswati Vidyalaya will receive Centre Point School trophy for the promotion of sports. Similarly, Katol’s Nabira Mahavidyalaya will get KC Bajaj Memorial Trophy for their services to the sports. Akshay Wakhre Jayashri Thakre Yash Gainkar Mrudul Dehankar Ansari
