Govt should enact laws for ban on hukkah parlours

Nagpur: Many hukkah parlours are running within jurisdiction of Nagpur city. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has no right to take action against these parlours.

Similarly, there are no clear laws of police department about hukkah parlours. State government should enact laws to ban hukkah parlours to save young generation from falling prey to hukkah. A resolution in this regard was unanimously passed in the general body meeting of Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Friday. The concerned resolution will be sent to State government.

Boys and girls in Punjab state have fallen prey to addiction due to hukkah parlour. Punjab government had started de-addiction programme with the help of local social organisations to control this problem. There are chances of cancer, tuberculosis, ailments of kidney, liver etc, due to chemicals used in hukkah.

Similarly, incidents of sexual exploitation of girls and young women under influence of drugs. The trend of hukkah parlour in Nagpur is growing due to which there is threat to young generation. Bharatiya Janata Party”s corporator Prakash drew attention of the House towards this issue.

He moved a resolution that NMC has no powers to take action against hukkah parlour, there are no clear rules about hukkah parlours in police department. Due to this State government should enact rules in this regard.
