Nagpur: The transformation of Ajni Railway Station into a modern transit hub is gathering pace, with redevelopment work showing visible progress across residential quarters, station buildings and key passenger facilities. The project is aimed at upgrading Ajni into a commuter-friendly station with improved amenities, safer movement and better connectivity.
A significant milestone has been achieved with the completion of two Type-IV residential towers (S+7), providing 28 newly built quarters for railway staff. Designed with modern living standards in mind, the residential component of the redevelopment has now been fully wrapped up.
On the passenger side, the East Side Station Building (G+3) is fast taking shape and is expected to become a central interface for commuters. Structural RCC work has been completed, while interior and exterior finishing activities are underway. Installation of essential passenger amenities such as lifts and escalators has begun, and façade work is progressing to give the building a contemporary look.
Construction activity has also intensified on the West Side Station Building (G+2). With piling completed, work is currently focused on pile caps and plinth beams, marking steady advancement in structural development.
To accommodate the expanded station layout, a section of the existing Metro Station structure has been dismantled without disruption. Passenger circulation is being strengthened through rapid progress on foot overbridges and concourse works. Girder launching is in progress at the North Foot Overbridge, while foundation and column works have been completed at the South Foot Overbridge. Concourse piling and column construction are also moving ahead as planned.
Meanwhile, construction work on the Central Foot Overbridge, including reinforcement and column erection, is progressing steadily. With multiple components advancing simultaneously, the Ajni redevelopment project reflects Central Railway’s ongoing push to deliver a modern, efficient and passenger-oriented railway station for Nagpur’s growing commuter base.
