Nagpur: Emphasising the growing threat of narcotics, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday called for immediate and decisive action to curb drug-related activities, warning that delays could allow the menace to spread further across urban centres.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new Bhandewadi Police Station in Nagpur, Fadnavis underlined that early intervention is crucial to prevent the expansion of illegal drug trade in cities like Nagpur.
“Nagpur Police are dealing with multiple challenges and are making sincere efforts to address them. ‘Operation Thunder’ is a significant initiative, but a single operation is not enough,” he said. “There are increasing attempts to push drugs into cities. If we do not act now, the problem will escalate. The fight against drugs must be sustained and uncompromising.”
Push to strengthen ‘Operation Thunder’
The Chief Minister stressed the need to further intensify ‘Operation Thunder’, calling for a more aggressive and coordinated approach to dismantle drug networks and tackle associated crimes.
He also inaugurated the police station at its temporary premises, announcing that a permanent building will soon be constructed at an alternate location.
Police expansion amid rapid urban growth
Highlighting the impact of rapid urbanisation, Fadnavis said new police stations are being established across Nagpur to meet the demands of a growing population and to strengthen law enforcement infrastructure.
“We are expanding policing facilities to ensure better law and order management. Public cooperation is equally important in keeping the city safe,” he added.
Modern facility to boost policing efficiency
Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, who welcomed the dignitaries, said the Bhandewadi Police Station is equipped with modern technology and citizen-centric services aimed at improving response time and operational efficiency.
Officials noted that the new facility will play a crucial role in crime prevention, with a particular focus on curbing drug-related offences and maintaining law and order in the area.
Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLA Krishna Khopade, and DCP Niketan Kadam, along with other senior officials, were present at the inauguration ceremony.
