Nagpur: Delivering a strong message on the ethics of modern medicine, Dr Mohan Bhagwat, Sarsanghchalak, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Sunday asserted that the true measure of any healthcare institution lies not in its infrastructure, but in its ability to serve the last person in society with dignity. He emphasised that healthcare must remain a mission of empathy, not a profit-driven enterprise.

Bhagwat was speaking at the inauguration of the Gangadharrao Fadnavis Memorial Diagnostic Centre at Pawanbhoomi ground in Somalwada in Nagpur. As the chief guest, he inaugurated the facility and underlined that while advanced technology is important, it is compassion that ultimately heals.

“Scientific progress must go hand-in-hand with humanity. No patient should be denied treatment due to financial constraints. Offering world-class services at affordable rates is not charity, it is a social obligation,” he said, invoking the spirit of selfless service associated with the centre’s namesake.

The diagnostic centre, set up by the Shri Siddhivinayak Sewa Foundation, is dedicated to late Gangadharrao Fadnavis, remembered for his lifelong commitment to social service. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between high-end medical facilities and affordability for common citizens.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted the importance of self-reliant healthcare infrastructure, stating that such projects can transform Nagpur into a medical hub.

“Healthcare must reach the poorest. With indigenous technology and reduced costs, we are ensuring that advanced diagnostics like MRI scans become accessible to all,” he said, adding that public service remains the core of political responsibility.

Emotional tribute, policy push by CM

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the occasion as deeply personal, recalling his father’s values of silent service. He also outlined the State’s healthcare initiatives aimed at universal coverage.

“Health is not a privilege but a right. Through schemes like Ayushman Bharat and Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, we are ensuring comprehensive care, from free dialysis to financial aid for major surgeries,” he said.

‘5-Star facilities at 1-Star rates’

MLC and Foundation President Sandip Joshi elaborated on the centre’s vision of affordability without compromising quality.

“Our aim is to provide top-tier facilities at minimal cost. With advanced equipment including MRI and CT scan machines, we will offer services like MRI scans at nearly one-third of market rates,” he said, adding that the centre is committed to easing the financial burden of healthcare.

Dignitaries in attendance

The inauguration witnessed the presence of several prominent leaders, including Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Mayor Neeta Thakre, Pankaj Bhoyar, former Mayor Maya Iwnate, and Ashish Jaiswal, among others.

With a strong focus on affordability, technology, and compassion, the newly inaugurated centre is expected to play a key role in reshaping accessible healthcare in Nagpur.
