Accord priority to solid waste management, ecology at mining areas: Mudgal

Nagpur: The District Collector Ashwin Mudgal on Thursday directed the District Mineral Foundation (Trust) authorities to accord priority to solid waste management, protection of environment, health facilities and other basic facilities before submitting proposals for carrying out mining activity in affected areas.

Mudgal was presiding over a meeting of District Mineral Foundation Management Committee held at Chhatrapati Hall at Collectorate. Present on the occasion include Additional District Collector Prakash Patil, Committee member Adv Leena Budhe, District Mining Officer Shriram Kadu and officials of various departments.

The meeting was informed that proposals worth Rs 85 crore out of Rs 135 crore available with District Mineral Development Fund were approved and the work has already started. Mudgal directed that all works should be done qualitatively and before stipulated time.

Under District Mineral Development Fund, an amount of Rs 85.82 crore was approved for various development works such as drinking water Rs 16.48 crore, health facilities Rs 10.86 crore, women and child welfare 2.94 crore, digital classrooms Rs 10 crore, facilities for senior citizens and divyangs and basic facilities at the cost of Rs 4.50 crore.

The District Collector directed the District Mineral Foundation to submit proposals for solid waste management under ecology and cleanliness at Parshioni, Kanhan Pipri and at bother places. Mudgal asked the authorities to accord priority to solid waste management, protection of environment, health facilities and other basic facilities before submitting proposals for carrying out mining activity in affected areas.
