Shri Vasant Purushottam Sathe
5 March 1925 – 23 September 2011
Born in Nashik, Maharashtra.
Educated at Bhonsala Military School, Nashik, Nagpur
Mahavidyalaya and Morris College, Nagpur University.
Studied Economics, Political Science and Law.
Participated actively in the Quit India Movement of 1942 at the age of 17. �
Served as a Member of the Lok Sabha from 1972 to 1991, representing Akola and subsequently Wardha.
Held several important portfolios in the Union Cabinet, including:

As Information & Broadcasting Minister, he was closely associated with the development of colour television broadcasting in India around the 1982 Asian Games.
Served as President of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and represented India at international forums including UNESCO.
He was also associated with civic, cultural, sports and developmental institutions in Vidarbha.
A prolific thinker and writer, he authored works including Towards Social Revolution, National Government: Agenda for a New India and Memoirs of a Rationalist.
His public life was remembered for frank expression, intellectual independence, cultural diplomacy and engagement with major national issues.
