Prabha Bhaiya wins gold medal at veterans aquatic contest

A versatile personality from city, Prabha Rakesh Bhaiya excelled in state-level veterans’ swimming competition held recently for women and men in the age group of 65-69. The 19th State-level aquatic contest was held at Wardha in which the 69-year old Prabha won gold medal in 50-metre Free Style event.

The contest was organised by Maharashtra State Veterans Aquatic Association and ‘Jaltaran Parivar,’ Wardha at the swimming pool of Nagar Parishad. Internationally renowned swimmer Girish Upadhyay was present on the occasion. The prize distribution was held at the hands of Wardha MP Ramdas Tadas, who is also known as Vidarbha Kesari.


Prabha has completed her MA in Hindi Literature. A painter and poetress of repute, she had also shown her talent in Kho-Kho. She took swimming lessons at Hanuman Vyayam Shala of Amravati. Prabha was also an NCC Officer in her college days.


Prabha Bhaiya has hobby of painting, rangoli, gardening, bhajans et al. In an outstanding feat, she carved out 108 idols of Lord Ganesh made from cloths, papers, soaps, wood, stones etc. The expo of the 108 Ganesh idols was held at a hall adjacent to famous Tekdi Ganesh Mandir.

Prabha is being felicitated by Hindi Mahila Samiti and Maheshwari Samaj on March 7.
