Nagpur: With the growing number of accidents staring the worried faces of authorities in the city, a posse of cops undertook a special drive to curb traffic violations especially the youngsters who enjoyed “Thrill in Speed.” The Traffic policemen made a ‘kill’ of hundreds of offenders with the help of 7 Speed Guns.
The drive, led by Police Inspectors of Traffic Branches 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 and their teams cracked down on violators of speed. On March 1, 190 speed violators were brought to the book. On March 2 – 242 ‘speed-breakers’ were faced the action. Similarly, 226 offenders were captured by Speed Gun for overspeeding and on March 4, 223 speed violators faced the action.
In February, 954 cases were registered against the ‘speedsters.
The special drive with Speed Guns was undertaken on the directives of Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham and guidance of DCP (Traffic) Smartna Patil.
Most drivers were found driving their vehicles at high speed and changing lanes abruptly. The policemen, equipped with speed guns and video cameras, hoped to check out the speed of the vehicles.
