Nagpur/Bhandara: The joy of attending school after summer vacation turned into a tragedy for a 6-year old girl in Bhandara. Just two days after being welcomed into the school, the little girl, studying in Class 1, lost her life after coming in contact with a live wire in the school washroom.
Angry relatives of the girl and the villagers staged a protest outside Lakhandur Hospital demanding action against the School Committee. Taking into account the gravity of the matter, officials of the district administration have suspended the Headmaster and promised to pay compensation of Rs 7.5 lakh to the family of the victim girl.
As per details, deceased 6- year-old Yashasvi Sopan Raut, a student of class 1, Zilla Parishad Primary School, Puyar in Lakhandur tehsil, in Bhandara district, reached the school on Wednesday but as the school sessions were yet to begin, students were playing outside. Yashasvi went to the washroom, where she reportedly came in contact with a live wire. Other students there picked her up and brought her near the kitchen and informed the cook there.
Soon, Headmaster Nilkanth Bhave also reached the spot and the girl was rushed to Rural Hospital, Lakhandur. Medical Officer Dr Dattatraye Thakare declared her dead on admission. On getting information, PSO Sachin Pawar of Lakahandur Police Station, PSI Dinkar Aagashe and other cops reached the spot. Cops searched the washroom and suspected that Yashasvi came in contact with the aluminum wire of the sanitary napkin vending machine.
In his statement, Headmaster Bhave said that the said washroom was shut and not in use. Just two days back the aluminum wire was removed and the entire washroom cleaned. No one knew when the wire fell on the floor. According to Anjali Gedam, a class 7 student, who first spotted Yashasvi, said, “As soon as I entered the washroom, I saw her on the floor with froth oozing out of her mouth. I and other students took her out and informed the lady who cooks food. Sometime later Bhave Sir also arrived.”
Meanwhile Nilesh Ramteke, Sarpanch of Puyar GP, blamed Headmaster and the School committee for the death and demanded action against them.
