5 members of gang arrested, dacoity foiled in Gittikhadan

Nagpur: Crime Branch foiled an imminent dacoity by arresting a gang of five armed robbers in nick of time from Gittikhadan area on Wednesday night.

PSI R R Tripathi (Crime Branch) and his team while on patrol duty received secret information that a gang five suspicious persons had gathered at a dark place near Sandipani School, Air Force Colony, on Wadi Control Post Road, around 7.45 pm on Wednesday. Acting swiftly, the police team reached the spot and confronted the gang.

When asked about the motive for assembling at the spot, the five persons could not give satisfactory answers. Subsequently, cops searched them and found a gupti (big knife), iron rods, nylon rope and a packet of chilli powder and a Yamaha bike and a Bajaj Pulsar bike in their possession. Cops seized the weapons and the two bikes collectively worth Rs 2.25 lakh and detained the gang of five accused robbers who were planning dacoity somewhere in the area.

The five accused named Sharad Shyamrao Katlam (20), resident of Chinchbhavan, Ritik alias Chhotya Sevakram Katre (18) of Dattawadi, Ram Ishwar Giri (36) of Dabha Basti, Vilas Gaekwad (38) of Pardi Deshmukh, Kalmeshwar and Ganesh alias Ganna alias Sultan Anandrao Burde (33) of Bhankheda were booked by Gittikhadan PSI Patke under Sections 399, 402 of the IPC and placed under arrest.
