3 trucks with stolen sand worth Rs 25.24 lakh seized, 4 men arrested

Nagpur: Kamptee police have arrested three tipper truck owners on the charges of stealing sand from banks of Kanhan River in connivance with a sand ghat contractor on Monday. Cops have seized the stolen 8 brass sand and the three trucks collectively valued at Rs 25.24 lakh.

A squad of Kamptee police’s Detection Branch (DB) was on patrol duty on Monday. Around 4 pm, the DB squad stopped the three tipper trucks (MH-40/Y 108, MH-40/7216 and Tata Truck MH-40/N 400) laden with 8 brass of sand stolen from Kanhan River banks near Niri Shivar. After confirming that the sand was stolen to evade royalty to government, cops detained the truck drivers-cum-owners Lokchand alias Chhotu Khetri Bisen (40) of Bharatnagar, Ramesh Sattu Mohane (40) of Kamptee and Rajendra Kashinath Dhurve (45) of Sindewahi, Deolapar. Cops also detained the sand ghat contractor for facilitating the sand theft. The stolen sand the three tipper trucks collectively valued at Rs 25.24 lakh were seized by the cops.

The detained accused have been charged under Sections 379, 34 of IPC.
