2 killed as dumper crushes Sumo

news_390343Nagpur News : Two people including a Western Coalfield Limited (WCL) employee met a tragic end, after a massive 50 tonne dumper truck crushed the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling, at Umred. Three people have also been seriously injured in the accident.

The deceased include Pramod Nagrare of WCL and service engineer of BEML Ashok Bhurewar, while driver of the vehicle Raju Tulaturi, Ajay Khangare and Devendra Singh were injured and have been sent to Nagpur for treatment.

According to eyewitnesses, the dumper truck after crushing the Sumo dragged it till more than 20 metres. Pramod Nagrare was stuck within the vehicle, while Ashok Bhurewar jumped out of the car and slipped under the wheels of the truck.

However, Nagrare’s body could not be taken out till 4 pm. As soon as news spread WCL labourers started to collect at the hospital. Soon relatives of the deceased and the injured also arrived.

According to labourers the main reason behind the accident is the narrow streets within the Umred mines. The incident has also raised a direct question on safety of workers at the mines.
