
Nagpur: Continuing its crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Nagpur Police Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (NDPS Cell) seized 1.3 kg of ganja valued at approximately Rs 32,500 and arrested one accused during a raid in the Sakkardara area. Police are also searching for an absconding repeat offender who is wanted in multiple NDPS cases and has been externed from the city.
According to police, the operation was carried out between 10.30 pm on August 2 and 12.50 am on August 3 near Mahakali Sheetla Mata Temple in Rani Bhosale Nagar slum, within the jurisdiction of Sakkardara Police Station. Acting on a specific tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Cell raided the location and apprehended one suspect. During the search, police recovered 1.300 kg of ganja, estimated to be worth Rs 32,500, from his possession.
The arrested accused has been identified as Vicky Ramesh Dubey, a resident of Rani Bhosale Nagar slum, Sakkardara. Preliminary investigation revealed that he is a repeat offender, with an earlier case registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Sakkardara Police Station (Crime No. 169/2024).
Police have also named Aslam Khan alias Bhuru Dawood Khan as a co-accused in the case. He is currently absconding. According to investigators, Aslam has three NDPS cases registered against him and is a recorded externed offender of Sakkardara Police Station. A special police team has been formed to trace and arrest him.
Based on a complaint lodged by Police Constable Arvind Bedekar of the Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Cell, a case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(2)(B), and 29 of the NDPS Act at Sakkardara Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deepak Agrawal and led by Police Inspector Bharat Kshirsagar, in charge of the Anti-Narcotics Cell. The Crime Branch described the action as a significant success in its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and reiterated that stringent action against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade will continue.
