Nagpur: In what could be mentioned as challenging the directives of the High Court, the Youth Congress activists of the city assembled in front of Devadia Bhavan on March 8, 2016.
The Youth Congress activists intend to take out a rally without wearing helmet as an act of opposing the compulsory helmet rule led by President of Youth Congress Nagpur Bunty Shelke.
The High Court had issued a rule directing the Traffic Department to ensure that all two-wheeler riders wear the protective head gear (Helmets) mandatory. This High Court had also directed that riders not wearing helmets will have to face punishment under the Motor Vehicles Act.
However, the Youth Congress activists assuming that it is the BJP Government that has initiated this move had been opposing this rule from the time when the rule was imposed and enforced by the Traffic department.
At around 3: 30 pm, the Youth Congress activists took out the rally without wearing helmets. The police department which had anticipated some untoward incident had deployed the personnel of the Rapid Action Force near the spot. As soon as the rally started, the police arrested around 15-20 Youth Congress Activists.
