Youth arrested for demanding ‘Hafta’ from a woman shopper

Nagpur News: Imambada police have arrested an externed criminal for trying to extort money from a woman grocery shopper and also threatening to kill her if she failed to pay the amount.

According to police, the complainant woman Shilpa Chandan Nandeshwar (27) runs a grocery shop near her house and Bouddha Vihar under  the jurisdiction of Imambada Police Station. The externed criminal Sonu alias Chirkya alias Rohit Naresh Meshram (22), resident of Rambagh, forcibly entered the woman’s shop at about 1600 hours of Friday and demanded Rs 5,000 as “Hapta” if she wants to run the shop (Extortion money) and threatened to kill her if she failed to hand over the amount and also complained to police or anybody. However, Shilpa refused to pay the “Hapta” and told Sonu to leave her shop. The exerned criminal then resorted violence and started throwing grocery material, damaging  property. Sonu alias Chirkya alias Rohit Naresh Meshram was externed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4 on 26-02-2013 for the period of one year.

However, Shilpa Nandeshwar approached Imambada Police Station and lodged a complaint against Sonu in this connection. The Imambada API Shankurwar registered offence under Sections 452, 384, 504, 506 of the IPC and Sub-Section 142 of the Bombay Police Act and arrested Sonu alias Chirkya alias Rohit Naresh Meshram.
