Young voters should exercise their franchise as duty: Kurve

Kurve (4)Nagpur: “The democracy in a powerful nation like India is deep-rooted. The youths, in order to strengthen the democracy on greater scale, assuming voting as their duty, should exercise their franchise,” appealed the District Collector and District Election Officer Sachin Kurve. Kurve was presiding over a function to mark celebration of Sixth National Voters’ Day held at Bachat Bhavan here on Monday.

The newly registered voters in all the six Assembly constituencies, mainly the young ones, were distributed voters’ identity cards on the occasion. Others present at the function include Deputy Election Officer Manohar Raut, Deputy Collector Girish Joshi, Prakash Verma, Shailendra Meshram, B H Rathod and others.

“Elections in India are conducted transparently and impartially. The nation is emerging as global leader. Every citizen in this country has the right to vote. He or she should exercise the right to vote as duty,” said the District Election Officer.

Kurve (3)At the outset, Kurve lighted the traditional lamp and administered the oath to voters. The National Voters’ Day message delivered by Chief Election Commissioner Naseem Zaidi was read out on the occasion. Komal Dilip Nimje, who registered her as a voter for the first time, expressed her views. The introductory speech was given by Manohar Raut while vote of thanks was proposed by Girish Joshi. The programme was conducted by Tehsildar Leena Falke.
