Young girl, elderly man killed in separate accidents

Nagpur News : A 28-year-old girl and an elderly man were killed in separate accidents in Jaripatka and Ajni areas on Thursdayand early Friday.

In the first accident, the 28-year-old Vandana Somnath Chowdhary, a resident of Harijan Colony, Mecosabagh Road, was killed by a rashly driver four-wheeler on Thursday. The sources have it that Vandana, who worked in Lata Mangeshkar Hospital was returning home at around 4 pm on Thursday after completing his duty when a rashly driven Bajaj Platina (MH 31 CU 5015) dashed into her Scooty (MH 31 BM 1250) at the road in front of her house. The accused driver, identified as Mohd Izhar Mohd Iliyas (25), a resident of Yashodhara Nagar, ran away from the spot.

Nearby people rushed Vandana to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital but doctors declared her dead after preliminary treatment. Jaripatka police, who reached the hospital after being informed, registered an offence under Sections 279 and 304 (a) of the IPC against the accused and started their investigations.

In the second accident, a 60-year-old pedestrian was killed in a freak accident early Friday. Ajni police, under whose area the accident took place, have informed that the deceased has yet to be identified.

The accident took place in front of Plot No. 515, Hanuman Nagar Road at around 3.15 am on Friday. The elderly man was crossing the road when an unidentified vehicle hit him and resulted in his death. People noticed the blood stained body early morning and informed Ajni police about the incidence.

Cops have registered an offence under Sections 304 (a) read with sub sections 134 and 177 of Motor Vehicle Act and started their investigations.
