India pacer Mohammad Shami bowled a fiery spell picking up four wickets to send West India crashing to a 125-run defeat at Old Trafford.

Shami took 4/16, while Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets each as West Indies were sent packing for a lowly 143 in 34.1 overs in reply to India’s 268 for seven.

India, the only unbeaten team in the World Cup, inch closer to the semis as they jump to second in standings with 11 points from six games behind Australia (12 points from 7 games).

Meanwhile, West Indies are out of reckoning for a place in the semis with just one win from seven games.

Earlier, Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit half-centuries to rally India to 268 for seven.

Opting to bat first, India lost opener Rohit Sharma (18) early but Kohli (72) and opener KL Rahul (48) added 69 runs for the second wicket to steady the innings.

Hardik Pandya (46) and Dhoni (56 not out) forged the only other 50-plus partnership in the Indian innings.
