Wordy treat: 8th National Book Fair opens on Saturday at Kasturchand Park in Orange City

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur National Book Fair are jointly organizing 8th Annual National Book Fair from January 4 to 12, 2014 at Kasturchand Park in Nagpur.

The NMC is the only civic body that organizes National Book Fairs with the aim of increasing reading culture in the era of dozens of TV channels, Internet, Apps. Today’s youths have been distancing themselves from reading books. The National Book Fair has become an attraction for the Orange City citizens. The Fair is being organized every year by the NGO Nagpur National Book Fair on “No Loss No Profit” basis with the sole intention of giving momentum to reading culture.

The National Book Fair will be inaugurated at 4 pm on January 4 by the chief guest and eminent literary Dr Yeshwant Manohar and will be presided over by Mayor Anil Sole. The nine-day word festival is likely to draw thousands of book lovers.

The Special Invitees are Guardian Minister Shivajirao Moghe, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anil Deshmukh, EGS Minister Nitin Raut, Minister of State for Finance and Planning Rajendra Mulak, Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar, Rajya Sabha Members Vijay Darda, Avinash Pande, Ajay Sancheti, South West Nagpur MLA Devendra Fadnavis, South Nagpur MLA Dinanath Padole, East Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde, Central Nagpur MLA Vikas Kumbhare, West Nagpur MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, and MLC Nago Ganar.

Other prominent personalities that will grace the function include Deputy Mayor Jaitunnabi Ashfaq Ansari, NMC’s Standing Committee Chairman Avinash Thakre, Ruling Party Leader in NMC Pravin Datke, Opposition Leader in NMC Vikas Thakre, NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane, District Collector Saurabh Rao, and others.
