Women’s Day Celebrated at Shivaji Science College

Shivaji Science College celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing one day Seminar on Legal Awareness about the Sexual Harassment of  Women at Workplace Act, 2013.  Chief Guest of the occasion  Abha Bijju Pandey, President of the event,  Principal of the college Dr. D.K. Burghate, key note speaker Dr. Usoshi Guha, and Adv. Ashvini Dalal inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp.

Principal Dr. D.K. Burghate welcomed the guests and participants.  He highlighted that women cell in Shivaji Science College was established in 2003, since then the cell has been actively involved in various activities.  The women members of the college participate in various workshops & conferences related to women issues organized by different organizations like C E D A W, S A AM (UGC), T O T (UGC).

As the Institution has Women Centric approach it has organized today’s seminar on Legal awareness regarding Sexual Harassment of women at workplace Act 2013, etc.  Guests were welcomed by Dr. Mrs.  Pratibha Burghate, Dr. Punita Tiwari, Dr. Rini Dwivedi and Prof. M.A. Pande.

Chief Guest of the event Abha Pandey highlighted the courageous work done by women in various fields including politics.  She further insisted on the security of girls and culture to be inculcated in boys and girls equally at home.

Resource person of the Seminar Advocate Ashwini Dalal explained the Sexual Harassment Act 2013 (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) in detail.  She further said that it was introduced by Justice late Dr. Verma, who was really interested in strengthening women.

Key note speaker Dr. Ushoshi Guha spoke about Women’s rights and their empowerment by showing documentary on Indian people thinking about the foreign visitors.  She further appreciated that it is a good sign that college is having active Women Counselling and Redressal Cell to help the needy girl students and women staff.

Ritu Mahore conducted the proceedings while Ms. Diksha Jaiswal proposed a vote of thanks.  All the teaching and non-teaching staff members and girl students in large numbers were present on the occasion.
