Woman gagged, raped by relative in Old Kamptee’s Refresh Point Lodge

Nagpur: Two women were raped in different incidents in the city. The rapes, although, took place in the past, complaints were registered on Thursday, April 19, for unspecified reasons. Incidentally, one of the accused happens to be a close relative of a victimised woman.

A 21-year old woman, in her complaint to Old Kamptee police, said she had come to Nagpur around 7 pm on March 23, 2018, in connection with a work. She contacted her relative Sabir Abdul Gaffar (29), resident of Mominpura, for help. The accused Sabir, on the pretext of helping her, took her to Refresh Point Lodge in Old Kamptee jurisdiction and booked a room on first floor. Later, the accused gagged the woman’s mouth and forcibly raped her. For reasons, the rape survivor registered a case against the accused Sabir Gaffar only on April 19.

Old Kamptee police constable Samadhan, acting on the complaint, booked the accused Sabir Gaffar under Section 376 of the IPC and launched a probe into the matter.

In another incident, the accused Vishal Pramod Wankhede (30), resident of Sambhaji Square, near Nagoba Mandir, Pratap Nagar area, lured a 34-year old woman with marriage promise. With this promise, the accused Vishal Wankhede exploited the woman sexually between March 24, 2016 and March 21, 2018. However, when the victimised woman insisted the accused to marry her, he spurned her and refused to tie the nuptial knot. The dejected woman finally lodged a complaint with Pratap Nagar police in this connection.

PSI S J Kendre, based on the complaint, booked the accused Vishal Wankhede under Section 376 of the IPC. Further probe is under way.
