Nagpur: Chandrakant Gharote, the general secretary of Sanskar Bharti, on Sunday said that he was glad to be appointed as the member of Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC), adding that he would perform to the best of his capabilities.
“Art is a strong medium to bring about change in society. I have worked in this field for 25 years and I am glad that this responsibility has been bestowed upon me. I will perform to best of my capabilities. I just want to work with dedication for welfare of society,” Gharote told media here.
However, the opposition was quick to point out that this follows the several steps taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to ‘saffronise academics and art’ in the country.
Sanskar Bharti is a cultural outfit affiliated to the RSS. The fresh controversy comes at a time when the government’s move to appoint Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the Pune-based Film and Television Training Institute (FTTI) has drawn sharp criticism.
