Nagpur: In a high voltage drama, two motorcycle-borne traffic violators created a scene when challaned and also heckled and thrashed a traffic policeman. Both the accused are now cooling their heels behind bars. Incidentally, the “high-flying” accused are brothers.

The enactment of drama got off to a start when traffic cops were on duty at Samvidhan Square (RBI Square) as usual. The Traffic cops in recent times have adopted a practice of photographing the traffic rule violators, particularly the non-helmet wearers, and sending the e-challan to the residents of the offenders. The practice is aimed at avoiding unnecessary tussle between the law breakers and the law enforcers.

Around 11 am on Wednesday, the traffic cops spotted the two Avenger-borne brothers. The rider was not wearing helmet. A woman cop immediately photographed the rider. Seeing the woman cop capturing him in camera, the bike rider got furious and started hurling filthy abuses on cops. Noticing the situation turning ugly, traffic policeman on duty Sandeep Vilas Ingole politely asked the rider and his accomplice to control themselves. But instead of heeding to the polite words, the ruffian rider drove his bike on the leg of Ingole menacingly. That was the limit of patience. The traffic cop Ingole immediately stopped the bike and pulled the two rowdy riders. But the two accused, not to be outdone, started shouting in pitched voice and drew attention of passersby. “Anti-corruption wallonko bulao, yeh policewalla mujhe maar raha hai” (Call the Anti-corruption men, this traffic cop is beating me) were the words of the rowdy rider and his pillion. As the words had no effect, the two accused started heckling Ingole, caught hold of his collar and slapped on his face two-three times. Seeing his colleague in dire straits, the Traffic Head Constable Prakash Lengule immediately alerted the Control Room. Later, DCP (Traffic) Ravindrasingh Pardeshi too reached the spot and took stock of the volatile situation. A patrolling van from Sitabuldi Police Station was summoned and two accused were taken to the police station.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Traffic cop Sandeep Ingole, Sitabuldi police booked the two accused – Samay Ganesh Marawar (31) and Varay Ganesh Marawar (25), residents of C-23, Jeevanchhaya Society, Ramdaspeth – under Sections 353, 332, 294, 504, 323, 34 of the IPC and placed them under arrest. Both the accused brothers were going to Sadar for snacks when the sordid incident took place.

Airing his side, the accused Samay Marawar (rider) said that the traffic cop hit him first. The policeman is levelling false accusation that he hit him first.

However, an eyewitness Ravi Gadge Patil nailed the accused Samay Marawar. “The way the accused caught hold of the cop’s collar and slapped him is wrong. The fault lies with bike rider. The moment the drama started, I captured it in my mobile phone,” the eyewitness said.
