Nagpur: A notorious goon, wanted in a kidnapping and murder case and absconding since the past two years, was nabbed by Crime Branch Unit 2 from Arni town of Yavatmal district on Saturday.
The accused has been identified as Sheikh Wasim alias Chirya Sheikh Afzal (35), resident of slums near Shantinagar Ghat. An offence 408/15 under Sections 302, 201, 143, 147, 148, 149 of IPC read with Sub-section 4+25 of Arms Act was registered against the accused at Lakadganj Police Station. The accused Chirya and his accomplices, between September 22 and 27, 2015, had kidnapped a man out of old rivalry and murdered him. However, since then the accused had gone absconding and was being hunted.
On February 10 night, a squad of Crime Branch Unit 2 was on patrol in Lakadganj area. During the patrol, the cops received a secret information that the wanted accused Sheikh Wasim alias Chirya Sheikh Afzal was hiding in Kambal Posh Baba Dargah in Arni town of Yavatmal district. Acting on the inputs, the Crime Branch Unit 2 formed a team and rushed to the spot on Saturday (February 11). The team nabbed the accused Chirya even before he could sense the trailing cops. He was brought to Nagpur and handed over to Lakadganj police for further course of action.
The task was accomplished by PI G G Tathod, PSI S K Lule, head constables Battulal Pandey, Ravindra gawande, NPCsPrakash Wankhede, Mahesh Kursunge, Baljit Thakur, Sayyed Wahid, sepoys Shyam Gorle, and others under the guidance of Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham, DCP (Detection) Ranjankumar Sharma, and ACP Nilesh Raut.
