Wall of historic Lal Darwaza Temple at Tandapeth collapses

DSC_0188Nagpur News: The wall of the historic Lal Darwaza Temple at Tandapeth suddenly collapsed early morning on August 13, 2014. However there was no loss to any life reported in the collapse of the wall.

Nagpur Today spoke to residents nearby, who said that this historic temple Lal Darwaza Temple which is nearly 150 to 200 years old is located at Tandapeth. The Pili Marbat and Eknath Sahu Wadi is also said to be near the place.

The wall which was built years ago had become dilapidated and finally collapsed during the monsoon season, this year. Eye witnesses said that a 12 year old boy escaped with a hair-length distance to spare.

As soon as a local Congress leader was informed, he reached the spot immediately. The Congress leader in-turn informed the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, Senior Executive Engineer and Junior Executive Engineer of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. These officials too reached the spot and had started the work of removing the debris (Malba) from the site. Till the filing of this report, the officials were waiting for the JCB to come so that the massive gate which is hanging precariously from the broken wall can be removed. Nearly 500 people were present at the site. Some of the prominent persons of the area who were present at the site to supervise the debris removal included Corporator Yashashri Nandanwar, Social activist Anil Sune, Mahesh Shriwas, Jaikishan Badewale, Gangadhar Bandekar, Omprakash Sahi etc.
