The Vidarbha Maheshwari Sports Association – a community sports event destination in Nagpur – has successfully ventured into its fourth year. To commemorate the journey of success so far and to give away the awards to previous year’s winning members, the association organized a mega event at Rajwada Palace near Gandhi Sagar lake in Nagpur. Besides, the formal auction of the players was also conducted to set start the sporting events for upcoming season.
The programme was attended by the Chief Guests renowned businessmen A.K. Gandhi, Vishal Muttemwar, Daulalji Mal and Sudhir Baheti. Mayur Rathi, one of the association’s key committee members, convened the programme. Around 300 families from the Maheshwari community were gathered on the venue to make the programme a big success.
Stepping towards child education
The VMSA Awards ceremony recognized the potential sportsmen across various fields. The awards were given across various sports categories like leather and tennis ball cricket tournaments along with competition in games like football, badminton, chess, carom, snooker and table tennis. The association has initiated steps towards achieving the goal of child education in association with an NGO Ekal Education working for the educational betterment of tribal students. Stepping ahead towards this cause, an amount of Rs 16,000 has been donated to the organization. This apart, plan to adopt two schools catering to tribal students is also on the anvil.
VMSA Bulletin released
The community magazine called VMSA bulletin was also unveiled on the occasion by the guests at the event. Details of activities and achievements during the last three years along with the current year’s programme were also rendered out.
Chief guest A.K. Gandhi said that VMSA should now aim at thinking beyond community and work for the larger cause of human beings. He said a larger chain of Olympiad should be formed under the community head to develop an all inclusive sports body in the region.
Daulalji Mal said that not only cricket all the sports should be given equal weightage while designing the schedule of events in VMSA.
Vishal Muttemwar stressed the need for the Maheshwari community to bring the talented players of Vidarbha across various sports on the common platform. He said the community being financially sound should help the emerging sportsmen from the region to show their performance.
Committee members determined
All the committee members including Mayur Rathi, Niraj Loya, Sidharth Chandak, Prashant Mohata, Sachin Pachisia, Parishit Chandak, Shrikant Sarda, Vineet Periwal, Praveen Surjan, Prateek Rathi and Gopi Malu extended their cooperation for making the programme a grand success. The members expressed their determination for working towards betterment of VMSA with every passing year.
