In its strongest ever statement towards creation of Vidarbha state, Vidarbha Connect (VCan), an apolitical forum of citizens from all walks of life, hoisted Vidarbha flag across all districts of Vidarbha on Thursday. This day of May 1 was selected as the Government of Maharashtra celebrates it as Maharashtra Day. However, instead of celebrating it as a black day like other pro-Vidarbha Organisations, VCan hoisted its specially designed flag at Vishnuji Ki Rasoi at Bajaj Nagar amidst presence of large number of members and other public.
A flag was hoisted by Vidarbha Connect president Advocate Mukesh Samarth in presence of plethora of dignitaries from cross sections of the society. It was followed by a bike rally led by Youth Wing of Vidarbha Connect that traveled across the length and breadth of the city carrying flags and banners of Vidarbha Connect and spread the message of separate state. The rally concluded at Telangkhedi Lake.
Those who attended the programme included — noted economist Dr. Shriniwas Khandewale, Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED) former President Vilas Kale and present chief Devendra Parekh, VED, secretary general Ragul Upganlawar, noted pediatrician Dr Uday Bodhankar, well known orthopedic surgeon Dr Sanjay Marwah, Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) president J P Sharma, Vidarbha Rajya Andolan Samiti convenor Deepak Nilawar, Jan Manch members – Arvind Patil, Manohar Radke and Naresh Kshirsagar, Vidarbha Youth Force’s Ashish Deshmukh, AAP Lok Sabha candidate from Chandrapur Wamanrao Chatap, Sarang Upganalwar, Jayanti Patel, Ram Newale, Yeshwant Bagde, Dharmik, former director general of police P K B Chakraborty, Amarjeet Singh Chawla and others.

The people started gathering at the venue since early morning and raised slogans demanding statehood to Vidarbha after the flag hoisting ceremony. The flag was unfurled on a nearly 50 feet tall pole and was visible from long distance. Prominent Vidarbha Connect members, who attended the programme included – Secretary Dinesh Naidu, Treasurer Tejinder Singh Renu, joint secretary Smita Sarode Singalkar, vice president Sudhir Paliwal, executive committee member Firdos Mirza, Tushar Mandlekar, Atul Modi, Rafique Akbani, Dr Abhishek Sambre, Aditya Chepe, Anand Kajgikar, Akshay Sudame, Rahul Dharmadhikari, Anand Deshpande, Ritesh Arora, Akshaya Sudame, Chandragupt Samarth, Ritesh Kalra, Prasad Ashtikar, Parheez Gimi, Abhishek Malhotra and others.
Amravati VCans
The flag was also hoisted at various districts of Vidarbha. In Amravati, it was done by staunch Vidarbha supporter Chandrakant Wankhede at Sunrise Primary School in the presence of VCans representatives – Adv Anil Kilor, Shivkumar Rao, Deep Mahalle, Swapnil Shingane and Tejas Kane, Pramod Pande from Janmanch, Mohan Pawde, Nitin Mohad, Santosh Thakre, Baba Kondalwar, Prakash Pund, Adv Vasusen Deshmukh, Atul Gaigole and others.
Buldhana VCans

Bhandara VCans
Samarth called on the people to join the movement for separate state in large number and take it to its logical end. He said Vidarbha suffered a lot in oppressive regime of successive governments in Maharashtra and time has come for its liberation, which was only way of its development. He added that movement started by Vidarbha Connect was increasingly gaining momentum with each passing day with people from all walks of life joining it. “The day is not far when it will converge into a mass movement of Vidarbha,” he said.
Akola VCans
The flag was also hoisted at various districts of Vidarbha. In Amravati, it was done by staunch Vidarbha supporter Chandrakant Wankhede at Sunrise Primary School in the presence of VCans representatives – Adv Anil Kilor, Shivkumar Rao, Deep Mahalle, Swapnil Shingane and Tejas Kane, Pramod Pande from Janmanch, Mohan Pawde, Nitin Mohad, Santosh Thakre, Baba Kondalwar, Prakash Pund, Adv Vasusen Deshmukh, Atul Gaigole and others.
At Yavatmal, Adv Ramdas Raut unfurled the flag at Vidya Bhavan, Datey College Road in presence of Sanjay Akolkar, Sikandar Shah and others. Zahid Ali completed the formalities in Wardha near Pardhis Clinic, Hanuman Nagar. He was supported by Iqbal Sheikh, Ajaz Qureshi, Sonu Kamble, Abid Bhai, Sohail Khan, Mayur Raut, Afsar Khan, Gajanan Mahajan, Anand Pimpalwal, Pervez Khan, Rinku and others.
Chandrapur VCans
Similarly in Akola, it was done by Adv BK Gandhi at Sundarabai Khandelwal Tower Square in presence of Harish Anna Mirjamle, Adv Jagvijay Gandhi, Shrikant Tidke, Dhanjay Mishra, Ganesh Pote and others. At Washim, the flag was hoisted by Prof Ravi Nagpurkar near Hanuman Mandir, Madhav Nagar. Kishore Narkhedwar, Arjun Udaygire, Akash Ambekar, Prof Ram Wakudkar and others were present. At far end of Vidarbha, in Buldhana, the formalities were completed by Adv Kavimandan at Sharda Convent, in presence of principal A Jagtap, Dr Pramod Deshpande, Arunrao Deshpande, YK Mahi, Ramesh Cheketkar and others.
