Vaibhav Raut wins FIDE rating chess crown

vaibhav-chessNagpur: Vaibhav Raut, a student of Narayana Vidylayam emerge champion in All India Open Below 1800 Fide Rating Chess Tournament held at Jalgaon recently.

Vaibhav walked away with cash prize of Rs 35,000 along with a trophy. His ELO Rating has increased by 60 points and becomes 1830. During the first eight rounds of the tournament Gajanan Jayde of Mumbai and Vaibhav Raut from Nagpur were racing for Championship. But in last round on the top board Harshal Kale of Aurangabad compels Gajanan Jayde to settle for draw. On the other hand Vaibhav gave tough fight in 9th round to Gohel Ramnik of Gujarat.

By sacrificing bishop he compelled the opponent to resign from almost a draw looking game. Thereafter Vaibhav won the last round with Samil Nair and scored nine points out of 10 rounds and emerged clear winner.

Mumbai’s Gajanan Jayde stood second, other two players from Nagpur Seeya Thakre and Spandan Seth finished 8th and 30th respectively.
Vaibhav Raut, has represented Maharashtra two times in school games federation of India and won gold twice. Vaibhav participated in several National and state level tournaments.

Presently, Vaibhav is preparing under the guidance of Gurpreet Singh Maras. Vaibhav is son of Jayant Raut, Assistant Professor at YCCE, Nagpur and Vrushali Raut , teacher at Narayana Vidyalayam .

Vaibhav gives credit of his success to his parents, school principal Mala Chambeth, sports teacher Umesh Panbude, Yogesh Dihman and coach Gurpreet Singh Maras.Nagpur District Chess Association congratulated him on his success and felicitated him on Sunday.
