‘Sanju’, the biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead has already become one of the highest earning films in Bollywood, within 10 days of its release. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film has been lauded by fans, critics, and several Bollywood stars for Ranbir’s performance, apart from its story.

However, there were some who found certain things unsettling about the film, alleging that it is just an attempt to correct Dutt’s image. Many have reportedly raised an objection to the film reiterating that the actor was not a “terrorist”, something which had him spending years behind bars.

Now, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has come out and voiced his support for the film and the star, after he caught a screening of the biopic. Sharing his views about the same at a program in Nagpur, Gadkari praised ‘Sanju’ saying, “I have watched the film. It’s a beautiful movie. Media, police machinery and judiciary devastated the life of Sunil Dutt and Sanjay Dutt on the basis of perception. Nobody was ready to meet him at that time.

Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray however, stood by his side. He told me that Sanjay is innocent. He has been tricked. He then told me the true story of Sanju. The majority of which has been shown in the film. But some things are still hidden.”
