Nagpur: A man was found murdered with severe head injuries under the Ram Jhula near Nagpur Railway Station on Wednesday. The body was discovered by a passer-by who had stopped to urinate near the nullah beneath the bridge.
The victim, estimated to be in his 30s, had a prominent tattoo reading Ramesh on the right side of his neck, just below the ear. Police recovered a platform ticket from Itwari station in his pocket, but no mobile phone, money, or other identification was found.
Police sources said murder weapon appears to have been a roadside stone, indicating a blunt-force attack. There is no CCTV coverage in the area, and no eyewitnesses have come forward so far.Investigators suspect the killing may have resulted from a drunken altercation. The area under Ram Jhula is known as a hangout for beggars, vagabonds, and footpath dwellers, and has a history of murders and robberies, often targeting railway passengers.
A police post that once operated in the area was dismantled during Metro construction work and was never reinstated due to a location dispute.
Police said the identity of the deceased is yet to be established. A detailed description has been released to trace relatives or acquaintances.
