: Son of Tinsukia Zila Parishad’s Vice President Ratnaswer Moran’s son Kuldeep Moran was abducted on August 1, 2016 by members of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA).

The United Liberation Front of Assam insurgency menace seems to be reviving once again in the state of Assam. This time it is believed to be happening under the leadership of the BJP led government. A BJP leader’s son has been abducted by United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) and ULFA is demanding Rs 1 crore as ransom. BJP MLA Bolin Chetia received a video message from members of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) demanding Rs one crore in return for his nephew’s life.

The militant group allegedly asked Ratnaswer Moran to get the money from the MLA and had put an ultimatum on it. Kuldeep Moran was working for his uncle Bolin Chetia and was extremely close to him. Bolin had recently won in the State Assembly Election from Sadiya constituency on a BJP ticket. Both Moran and Chetia were in Congress earlier and had switched loyalties before the state Assembly polls this year.

Demand for ransom
The incident of abduction came to light when the members of ULFA released another video message of them demanding the same amount for the life of Ratnaswer Moran’s son.

In the video Kuldeep is pleading for his life and requesting the family and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to consider the seriousness of the matter and intervene for his release even if they were required to pay the amount. He was surrounded by five armed insurgents whose faces were covered.

Meanwhile the Assam police are conducting a search operation to secure the 27-year-old youth and bring him back to his home. The MLA has said that he will do whatever it takes to free his nephew and colleague from the clutches of ULFA.
