Nagpur: State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Monday launched a sharp counterattack on Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, who had recently accused the Centre of inaction, claiming that the State Government had not sent any proposal for farmers’ aid.
“Thackeray’s statement is baseless. If the state had not sent any proposal, then how did a Central team arrive in Maharashtra to assess crop losses and provide assistance? Uddhav Thackeray only wants to remain in the media spotlight, which is why he makes such meaningless remarks,” Bawankule retorted.
Centre committed to farmers’ welfare
Bawankule said that the Central Government officials are personally visiting every affected district in Maharashtra to assess the ground situation. “Financial assistance is decided only after an on-site survey. In cases where farmers received incorrect compensation cheques, strict action will be taken against the responsible officials. No one will be allowed to play with the livelihoods of farmers,” he asserted.
Emphasizing that this year is meant to bring relief and stability for farmers, Bawankule assured that even if the funds arrive with slight delays, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar are closely monitoring every issue and will ensure timely decisions. “There is no reason for MLAs to express dissatisfaction,” he added.
Turning his guns on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Bawankule remarked, “Rahul Gandhi goes abroad on vacation after every election. Mark my words, soon, Bihar will also have an NDA-led government, just like Maharashtra.”
Slams MP Prashant Padole’s remarks
Reacting to comments made by Bhandara MP Prashant Padole, Bawankule said, “Our government has already announced a Rs 32,000 crore relief package for farmers, of which Rs 9,500 crore has already been distributed. At such a time, Padole’s statement is completely irresponsible and immature. He became an MP by accident and should learn to exercise restraint while speaking.”
Concrete measures to curb wild animal attacks
Expressing sorrow over the recent leopard attack in Pune, which claimed the lives of two children, Bawankule called the incident “deeply painful.” He added that wild animals such as tigers and leopards are increasingly entering villages, and the government is taking this issue seriously.
“In Nagpur, we installed surveillance cameras to track the movement of wild animals. Similar measures will now be implemented in Manchar and surrounding areas. The Forest Department has been instructed to take immediate action,” Bawankule said.
With his remarks, the Revenue Minister not only defended the State and Central Governments’ handling of farmers’ relief operations but also took pointed political jabs at both the Opposition and dissenters within his own alliance.
