Nagpur: Two employees of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) were thrashed severely and threatened by a defaulting consumer when the staffers were busy in recovering unpaid power bills in Kalamna area on Saturday.

The complainant, Sunilkumar Haribhau Atagare (51), resident of Plot No. 10, Vishwakarma Nagar, and his colleague Kamalesh Liladhar Dhakate (25) were on duty. Both the MSEDCL staffers were recovering pending bill amounts and also checking power meters in the area between Balaji Nagar and Reliance Petrol Pump on Saturday. During the duty, Atagare and Dhakate went to the now closed Parate Lawn as the owner and consumer Babibai Purshottam Parate had not cleared the power bill of Rs 34,801 since the year 2019.

Both the staffers were also checking whether the power meter of the lawn was functional or not. In the meantime, the lawn owner’s son Vikas Purshottam Parate (31), resident of New Mangalwari, came there on a bike and started attacking Atagare and Dhakate. The accused Vikas Parate hit both with a helmet and threatened them of tying with a rope and cutting their legs and hands if they came at the lawn again. The accused also ran menacingly towards the MSEDCL staffers with a spade in his hand. The accused not only attacked the two MSEDCL staffers but also obstructed them from performing their duty.

Kalamna API Gupta, based on a complaint lodged by Atagare, booked the accused Vikas Parate under Sections 353, 332, 506 of the IPC and probing the matter further. No arrest has been made in the case so far.
