Nagpur: A tragic road accident in Khaparkheda has left two youths seriously injured, with locals blaming road encroachment and alleged drunken driving for the incident.
The accident took place around 8 pm on Wednesday on the stretch between Annamod and Chankapur. According to eyewitnesses, a speeding electric car (MH 40 DE 5257) suddenly went out of control. It first rammed into a four-wheeler and then ploughed into three two-wheelers in quick succession, causing panic in the area.
Two young men sustained serious injuries in the crash. One suffered a fractured leg, while the other sustained severe injuries near the eye. Both victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Local residents have alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and that increasing encroachments along the roadside have significantly narrowed the stretch, making it accident-prone. Angry locals attempted to apprehend the driver, but he managed to flee the scene.
Police reached the spot shortly after being informed and conducted a preliminary investigation. The situation remained tense for some time following the incident.
Residents have demanded immediate removal of encroachments and strict action against reckless and drunk driving, warning that failure to act could result in more such accidents in the future.
