Two goons robbing, extorting money at gun point arrested

Nagpur: In a major success, Crime Branch Unit 1 arrested two hardcore criminals who used to rob and extort money at gun point. Cops have seized a country made pistol, magazine with one live cartridge and stolen booty from the arrested goons. Cops have also solved two cases of extortion and threatening to kill committed by the two accused.

The arrested accused have been identified as Palash alias Gani Prakash Wasnik (24), resident of Plot No. 178, Kamgar Colony, Subhash Nagar, and Sunny Surendra Chavan (20), resident of Plot No. 1, Lokhande Nagar, Parsodi. Both the accused earlier stayed in Rambagh, Imambada.

The complainant, Nitin Santosh Tripathi (41), resident of Flat 40A, Forest Colony, Seminary Hills, had lodged a complaint with Pratap Nagar police saying that he and two students were standing near IT Park, behind Persistent Company, around 5.30 pm on Thursday. At the same time, the two accused goons riding a Yamaha FZ motorcycle accosted Nitin and the two students. The accused started abusing them and later whipped out a pistol. They charged the pistol and tried to kill Nitin. After threatening Nitin, both the accused fled the spot.

The investigation was also handed over to Crime Branch Unit 1. During investigation, the cops received information that the two accused were standing along with their Yamaha FZ bike at Lokhande Nagar, Parsodi. A team of cops immediately reached the spot and surrounded the two goons. The accused were detained and frisked. Cops found a country-made pistol, magazine with one live cartridge, and a spear in possession of the two accused. They were brought to police station and subjected to interrogation.

The accused spilled the beans and confessed involvement in crime. Further interrogation revealed that both the accused had thrashed a trader in Imambada and demanded Rs 5 lakh as extortion money at gun point. Cops also came to know that one of the accused Sunny Chavan was externed for two years in 2017. Sunny and his accomplice Shahrukh Beig had stolen a 42 inch LED TV from Kotwali area.

The two accused Palash alias Gani Prakash Wasnik and Sunny Surendra Chavan were booked under Sections 307, 34 of the IPC read with Section 3/25 of Arms Act and placed under arrest.

The arrests were made by PI Sandeep Bhonsale, API Prashant Chaugule, ASIs Srinivas Mishra, Vasanta Chaure, and other personnel under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Dr Bhushankumar Upadhyay, Joint CP Ravindra Kadam, Additional CP B G Gaykar, DCP (Detection) Sambhaji Kadam, and ACP (Crime) Sanjiv Kamble.
