Nagpur: Despite busy in keeping a tight vigil during the Ganesh immersion, a squad of DCP Zone 4 and Hudkeshwar and Ajni police jointly succeeded in arresting two car-borne goons who were carrying three guns – two country-made pistols and a mauser gun – and five live cartridges.

Police received a tip-off that two persons were travelling in a car and were in possession of lethal arms. Acting on the information, the cops rushed to Mhalginagar Square and waited for the right moment. Around 8.35 pm, the two persons arrived at Mhalginagar Square in a white and red colour Maruti 800 car (MH-31/AG 5209) and turned towards Balaji Restaurant near Uday Nagar Square. The waiting cops stopped them and frisked the car. The frisking led to seizure of two country-made pistols, a mauser gun and five live cartridges. With the lethal recovery, the two persons were placed under arrest.

The accused have been identified as Javed Ali Nisar Ali (25) and Sheikh Amin Sheikh Hamid (29), both residents of Hasanbagh. The car and weapons worth Rs 77,000 have been seized.

The task was carried out by API Kiran Chaugule, constable Ganeshsingh Parihar, NPC Rameshwar Kadav, sepoy Sachin Tumsare, all of DCP Zone 4 Squad, constable Manoj Ghode of Ajni police, PSI Bhavesh Kaore, constable Gurudeo Kumbhalkar, Vilas Chinchulkar, Shoeb and Atul, all belonging to DB Squad of Hudkeshwar police under the supervision of DCP Zone 4 G Shridhar, ACP Shirish Rathod and Senior PI Sunil Jhavre.
