Nagpur: Tehsil and Panchpaoli police on Monday arrested two car-borne bootleggers, including one hailing from dry Chandrapur District, and seized liquor and two cars collectively worth over Rs 11 lakh.
In the first incident, Tehsil police, acting on a secret information, stopped a Santro car (MH-31/BB 1878) near Kalimata Mandir, Gandhibagh in the wee hours of Monday. Upon frisking of the car, the cops found a stock of foreign-made liquor of different brands. When asked about the stock of liquor the driver of the car Nikhil Liladhar Kurrewar (23), native of Sindewahi, Chandrapur District, fumbled. Subsequently, cops arrested the accused car driver Nikhil Kurrewar under Section 65(A)(E) of Prohibition Act and seized 13 cartons of liquor and beer apart from the car totally worth Rs 2.77 lakh.
Similarly, Panchpaoli cops, acting on a tip off, laid a trap near Motibagh Railway Crossing and stopped a Scorpio car (MH-31/CN 8900). The cops, after a thorough check up of the car, found bottles of different brands of liquor stacked in the vehicle without proper documents. The driver of the car Ravi Shalik Varthi of Sudam Nagari, Ambazari was put under arrest. A stock of liquor and the Scorpio car collectively worth Rs 8.41 lakh were seized.
