Nagpur: In a significant operation against the illegal possession of weapons, the Kalamna Police arrested two youths and seized a sword and two sharp-edged knives during raids conducted at their residences. The total value of the recovered weapons is estimated at around Rs 6,600.
According to police, the action was carried out on June 14 while officers of the Kalamna Police investigation team were verifying the activities of known offenders in the area. During the operation, police received specific information from a reliable informer that deadly weapons had been illegally stored at a house in Gulmohar Nagar.
Acting on the tip-off, the police team conducted a raid at the residence of Kunal Mohan Banjare (19), a resident of Gulmohar Nagar, in the presence of panch witnesses. During the search, officers recovered a sharp steel sword valued at approximately Rs 5,000.
During questioning, Banjare allegedly informed police that he had purchased the weapon from Tarun alias Shivam Shatrughan Verma (23), another resident of the locality.
Based on the disclosure, police raided Verma’s residence and recovered two Chinese-made sharp steel knives worth around Rs 1,600. The weapons were immediately seized and both accused were taken into custody.
Police officials said the timely operation, based on credible intelligence, may have prevented potential criminal activities. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were illegally possessing the weapons. Investigators are now probing the purpose for which the weapons were being kept and whether they were linked to any planned criminal activity.
Considering the seriousness of the case, a special investigation team was formed under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Nityanand Jha. The operation was led by Sub-Inspector Santoshkumar Ramlod and included Police Head Constables Ravikumar Shahu and Pradeep Pawar, along with personnel Mangesh Lohi, Santosh Pandey, Anil Jadhav and Praful Gohokar.
