Two absconding members of Sumit Thakur gang nabbed in Shirdi; kingpin still at large

Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, Crime Branch of Nagpur Police on Tuesday nabbed two absconding members of Sumit Thakur gang, involved in attack on Gittikhadan-based Prof Malhari Mhaske, from the pilgrimage town of Shirdi. However, kingpin Sumit Thakur is still out of the net and absconding. The arrested members of the gang have been identified as Amit Thakur, brother of Sumit, and Nilesh Uike. A few days ago, gangster Sumit Thakur and his other accomplices had indulged in arson by setting Prof Mhaske’s car on fire, attacked him and also threatened to kill him. Since then the gang went absconding.

According to sources, the Crime Branch Inspector G G Tathod received a tip-off that two members of the gang, Amit Thakur and Nilesh Uike, were spotted at a hotel in Shirdi. The PI Tathod immediately contacted PI Pramod Wagh of Shirdi Police Station and drew a plan to nab the absconding accused.

Accordingly, the PI Tathod and his team reached Shirdi and with the help of local police, led by PI Wagh, stormed the hotel. The cops nabbed the duo, Amit Thakur and Nilesh Thakur, even before they could sense any sort of trouble. The whereabouts of the two gang members could be traced as the mobile phones of the accused were being tracked.

On September 16, gangster Sumit Thakur and his other accomplices had indulged in arson by setting Prof Mhaske’s car on fire parked at his residence in Gittikhadan area, attacked him and also threatened to kill him. Since then the gang went absconding.

However, the kingpin of the gang Sumit Thakur is still at large and is being hunted by cops. The Crime Branch has exuded confidence that the gangster will soon be in their net with the arrest of Amit Thakur and Nilesh Uike.
