The main reason why people chose to boycott Myntra in the trending twitter “#BoycottMyntra, is because one of their advertisements hurt religious sentiments of Hindu brethren.

The authorities of Myntra got the shock of their lives when they saw #BoycottMyntra as one of the top trends on Twitter On August 26, 2016. The Flipkart-owned e-commerce company is being trolled on social media for hurting the sentiments of religious Hindus who found an ‘offensive’ advertisement with Myntra’s logo in it on the Internet.

According to some twitteratti, the advertisement displayed an animated scene from ancient India’s epic Mahabharata depicting the famous episode when Draupadi, wife of the Pandavas, was disrobed in the Kaurava court. In the advertisement Lord Krishna, who came to Draupadi’s rescue, is seen shopping for an extra long saree from Myntra in the poster.

Sources claimed that a twitter user shared the graphic and asked Myntra for an explanation. Her tweet went viral in no time and outrage knew no bounds with people calling to boycott the website. The truth of the matter, however, is that the graphic (not an advertisement) was created by ScrollDroll, a content-creating website, and Myntra had no role no role to play. Sources in Myntra claimed that it was created in February but was removed immediately keeping in mind the religious sentiments of people.
