Nagpur: In a heart-breaking tragedy, three kids of 5-7 years and a woman, were crushed to death by an uncontrolled truck when the driver of the vehicle tried to save a motorcyclist. The tragic incident took place in Village Neri in Kamptee Tehsil of Nagpur District on Wednesdayu (March 30) morning. The senseless driver of the killer truck fled the spot after the accident leaving behind his vehicle for fear of angry backlash from thge villagers. A pall of gloom engulfed the Kathiyawadi community (Cattle foraging herd) of the village as the deceased kids and the woman belonged to it.
According to police, the tragedy occurred at around 11 am on Wednesday. The truck (MH 31/W 3492) was heading towards Neri village at break-neck speed. Midway, a motorcyclist crossed the speeding truck and in order to save the motorcyclist, the driver lost control of the truck and swerved towards road side where the kids and woman were standing. The uncontrolled truck mercilessly mowed down three kids in the age group of 5-7 years and the woman.
The three toddlers crushed to death on the spot while the woman succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital. The truck, after finishing the deadly job, came to halt at a distance. The driver fled the spot soon after the tragedy leaving behind the killer truck fearing angry backlash from the villagers who were seen rushing to the spot menacingly. A crowd of villagers and passersby gathered at the spot and the tempers ran high. A team of police too rushed to the spot and calmed down the volatile situation. Bodies of the three kids were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem.
The identity of the deceased kids and the woman could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
Kamptee police have booked the truck driver under relevant sections and mounted a hunt to nab him.
