Nagpur: The seriously injured truck driver, who was thrashed by an angry mob after a girl student was crushed to death in Bhiwapur, died in GMCH while undergoing treatment around 7 am on Monday.
The deceased, Santoshsingh Dewansingh (45), was native of Jharkhand. On Saturday, a girl student was killed and four other girls were injured seriously as the truck driven by Santoshsingh hit them when they were returning home on bicycles after school was over in Bhiwapur. After the mihap, angry people caught Santoshsingh and beat him severely. The tragedy also triggered violence by the irate people. Tension prevailed in the town.
As police were busy in controlling violence, Santoshsingh was not admitted to hospital for long hours. Later, he was sent to jail. As his condition deteriorated at the jail, he was admitted to GMCH where he succumbed to his injuries.
Dhantoli Woman PSI Yadav, based on information, has registered a case of accidental death and launched an in-depth investigation.
