Nagpur: A truck driver and one other person tried to hoodwink traffic cops by producing forged permit papers to escape action in Kalamna area here on Monday. But the alert cop foiled the attempt to fool them and now, both the accused are cooling their heels behind bars.

PSI Anant Uike, attached to Indora Traffic Chamber 5, was on duty between 9 am and 9 pm at Kapsi Bridge, near Barajari Cutting, Bhandara Road, on Monday. The PSI noticed that a 10-wheeler tipper truck (MH-40/AK 0025) entering the city limits despite ban on heavy vehicles. Subsequently, the PSI Uike stopped the truck and asked the driver Santosh Jairam Jipke (43), resident of Plot No. 148, Nagarjun Colony, Nari Road, to produce papers. The accused Santosh Jipke showed permit papers issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, allowing two trucks (MH-40/AK 0025 and MH-36/0907) between March 20, 2018 and April 18, 2018. The permit papers were having signature and seal of DCP Ravindrasingh Pardeshi. The permit papers aroused suspicion in the mind of PSI Uike and verified the documents with Traffic Branch Office and came to know that no such permission was given to heavy vehicles.

Later, it got revealed that the accused truck driver Santosh Jipke in connivance of another accused Deepak Shrikant Ganvir (32), resident of Plot No. 367, Uppalwadi, Nagpur, had forged the permit documents and tried to hoodwink traffic cops.

Kalamna ASI Bais, based on PSI Uike’s complaint, booked the two accused under Sections 420, 465, 468, 471, 34 of the IPC and arrested them. Cops are investigating the matter further.
