More than 989 drunk & driving cases registered
Nagpur: Some look for a chance to indulge in one of the favourite pass-time activities which is boozing. With festivals like Holi, many are seen enjoying the alcohol at various places where revelries are organized. However, what is disturbing is that they chose to drive their two-wheelers and four-wheelers under the influence of liquor. This often causes very horrific and horrendous accidents on the roads.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bharat Tangde wanted to ensure accident-free city roads. In order to do this he sent instructions to every police station and the Traffic police-men attached to each police station ensured that barricades are installed on roads and a thorough search is made to apprehend every driver who is drunk and is driving any motor vehicle. This move ensured accident free Holi celebrations in the city.
While speaking exclusively with Nagpur Today, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bharat Tangde said that they have apprehended 989 drunk drivers and cases have been initiated against them. Rupees 1,13,200/- (Rupees one lakh thirteen thousand two hundred) was collected as fines.
He added that right from 5pm of March 5, 2015 to 8 pm of March 6, 2015 the cops have been monitoring the roads and the road users. He said that his personnel have really done an excellent job in ensuring that no accident hampers the celebration of Holi in the city.
