Mumbai/ Nagpur: A cruel woman in Saudi dismembered the right hand of her Indian maidservant as a revengeful punishment for complaints lodged against the former about constant atrocities committed on the latter. Viewing it seriously, India has registered a strong protest with Saudi authorities demanding stringent action against the culprits.

Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj has tweeted, “The incident cannot be tolerated. We are extremely sorry to learn about the way Indian woman has been ill-treated in Saudi.”

According to media reports, 58-year-old Kasturi Munirathinam was employed as a maidservant/ domestic assistant by a family in Saudi. When she was trying to escape her employer on last Tuesday, her employer caught hold of the maidservant and dismembered her right hand with sharp weapon. Kasturi (hailing from Tamil Nadu, India) alleged that the house where was working at, the house-lady used to commit atrocities on her and keep her hungry too.

According reports, Kasturi’s sister S Vijaykumari confirmed that Kasturi was ill-treated and tortured by her employer woman who also used to keep Kasturi hungry. When Kasturi lodged complaint with local administration, the employer woman got infuriated and dismembered her right hand with a sharp weapon. Vijaykumari has appealed to Indian government that her sister be brought back to India. For the time being, Kasturi is hospitalized for treatment in Saudi.

Reports say that Kasturi had gone to Saudi about 3 months ago through an agent. Kasturi’s relatives at Vellore district in Tamil Nadu claim that the agent who had sent Kasturi to Saudi must be having her contact number.

The sources in External Affairs Ministry in India said, Indian consulate in Riyad, the capital of Saudi, has raised the issue of Kasturi with Saudi External Affairs Ministry officials and demanded criminal proceedings against the culprit house-lady for attempt to murder her domestic assistant.
